About
My name is Daniel Gold and I am the CEO of DEG Consulting, publisher of productivity eBooks such as Evernote: The Unofficial Guide to Getting Things Done and Simplify Your Life with Springpad.
Just before my father dropped me off at school my freshman year of college, he told me that college was my full-time job. He said that the money he was paying for me to be there was my salary and that for every hour that went by that I wasn’t studying was an hour of throwing money away.
The idea of managing my time in this context stuck with me and motivated me get a 3.94 my freshman year and graduating with a 3.75. In fact, I even taught time management courses while I was in college so that others could benefit from what I had learned as well.
All that changed when I entered the workforce and found that what got me through college and law school, no longer worked.
It started with the bar exam. I joke sometimes that I loved the bar exam so much I decided to take it twice in New Jersey. But the truth is that I just could not get in a rhythm to set myself up for success. I found that lack of organization caused me to flounder: my calendar lacked priority, deadlines were missed and people were let down. All of this because I lacked an efficient system.
That’s when I discovered David Allen’s Getting Things Done. This book fundamentally shifted what I thought it meant to be organized, manage my time and – most importantly – my life. Learning and then implementing this time management methodology enabled me to be more successful in my life. I was more productive, more organized, and empowered. I felt like I could accomplish anything once I had my life under control.
And I was right! As a litigation consultant for a global legal information services company, I racked up multiple awards internally for best practices, including “Best Rep” and two-time “Circle of Excellence Winner.” I was also designated as a leader among my colleagues in the areas of productivity, presentation design, and social networking. I was looked up to as the “go to” guy internally social networking and presentation design and was the face of credibility with my clients.
I am living proof that with structure, consistency, and hard work you can be wildly successful. I want to take what I’ve learned and help you achieve a life where you achieve your goals, love what you do, and live your passion!
